Starving to Kill

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Put on your seatbelts and hold onto your seats because this story is a wild ride. Today I am going to talk about a case that I have just recently learned about, but knew I had to share because it is so crazy. It is around the same time period as the Lizzie Borden case that I talked about in my last post. (If you haven't read it, check it out here !) It also has to do with murder, but it’s not as simple as you would think. In the Lizzie Borden case, whereas it remains unsolved, is fairly black and white. Andrew and Abby were stabbed to death with a hatchet. These murders were disguised as medicine. Linda Burfield Hazzard was born December 18, 1867 in Minnesota. By the time she was 18 she was already married and had two children. She did not stay with her family however. In 1898 she decided to leave her husband and children to go to Minneapolis and married Samuel Hazzard. They somehow ended up in Olalla, Washington.  She wanted to pursue a career in alternati...

Did Lizzie Borden Take an Axe?

Image
One of the first things that comes to mind when it comes to spooky, creepy, mysterious, is Lizzie Borden. I feel like just about everyone knows her name and what she was accused of, although she was acquitted. She even became a cute little rhyme to sing and jump rope to: Lizzie Borden took an axe. She killed her mother with 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she killed her father with 41. Andrew Borden is now dead. Lizzie hit him on the head. Up in heaven he will sing. On the gallows she will swing. For those of you who might not know her story, I’ll give you a recap of her family’s axe murder story that has lasted through the last century and has been made into TV shows and movies. (My personal favorite is the movie, then series, with Christina Ricci as Lizzie. She does creepy like no other.)  Lizzie Andrew Borden was born July 19, 1860 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Borden. Sarah Borden passed away in 1863, leaving Lizzie (3 y/o) an...

My Mom LIVED at a Haunted School

Image
It is the beginning of Spooky season! I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for cooler weather, changing leaves, and watching Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown on repeat. To kick off Halloween season 2021 I’ve got a fun story for all of you! Whereas folklore and urban legends are always fun, my favorite stories are the ones where there is a personal connection. So you already know from reading the title, this is the story of my mom living at a haunted school when she was a kid. Now I do have to admit, the things that were attributed to the hauntings happened mostly in the years after she lived there, but not all. Even if she doesn’t have her own personal paranormal experiences there, I still think that this is a really interesting story.  Miller Hall In Albion, Idaho, there was a school that had a couple of different names and types of education over the years: Albion Normal School, or as it was named when my mother lived there, Magic Valley Christian College. You may recogn...

Top #50 Movies To Watch on Netflix

Image
It's summertime, so that means movie nights- right? I know that even now that I am out of school there is something about summer that makes me just want to watch a movie. There are a lot of movies on Netflix, far more than the 50 I've listed here. I've narrowed it down to 50 that I have watched myself and have enjoyed. Now I am sharing some of the movies I've enjoyed with all of you! I know that movies come and go from Netflix, and this is a list that is currently on there right now.   I've arranged them into a few different categories: based on a true story, documentaries, with the family, young adult, and adult. Within the categories the movies are listed in alphabetical order. I considered trying to ordering them from favorite to least favorite, but I decided that would be absolutely too hard. Based on a true story Brain on Fire Rated: PG-13 Length: 1hr 29min Netflix original. Based on the true story of Susannah Cahalan, portrayed by Chloe Grace M...
